2035 Whalers

Welcome to the 2035 Whalers, a team within the Unltd Select program designed to help young players build a strong foundation and grow their love for the game of lacrosse. Led by Varsity Smithtown East Coach Matt McFarland alongside Dean Steinmann, this team focuses on teaching the fundamentals in a fun, positive, and competitive environment. The 2035 Whalers are committed to player development, confidence-building, and introducing athletes to the core skills of the game, including stick work, passing, catching, shooting, defense, and lacrosse IQ. The coaching staff brings a high level of experience and energy while creating an atmosphere that encourages hard work, teamwork, accountability, and growth. Our goal is to help every player continue developing both on and off the field while building a passion for the game and preparing them for future success in travel lacrosse.

Head Coach

Matt Mcfarland

Matt McFarland brings an impressive combination of high-level playing experience, championship coaching, and player development to the UNLTD Select program.

A former UMass Division I lacrosse player, Matt went on to compete professionally with the Long Island Lizards, giving him firsthand experience of what it takes to compete at the highest levels of the game.

Matt is currently a Varsity Coach at Smithtown East High School and was named the 2026 Section XI Assistant Coach of the Year. During the 2026 season, he also helped lead Smithtown East to the Suffolk County Class B Championship.

Matt brings a tremendous lacrosse IQ, a competitive mindset, and a passion for developing young players. His experience as a Division I athlete, professional player, and championship high school coach makes him an incredible resource for our athletes.
